I mean it’s Amazon-bought and they redesigned things to basically make book pages second Amazon pages and to downplay the community aspects so perhaps not surprising, but as a step this is def. getting worse. They also took away some other things such as basic linking, which is commercially controlling af.

Jessica Mae Stover :)

Hi there! And welcome! I rate critically instead of based on liking (the two don't always overlap): anything rated a 4 or 5 is a minor or major triumph and more objectively is a good use of anyone's time. That is to say, these books have something generally worthwhile to offer and a high quality of craft and manuscript production. I recommend all of these works. Enjoy!

Anything rated a 3 is solid enough and can be translated as, "Read this if you are into exactly this sort of thing." Enjoy!

My approach includes a sociological lens. Sociological imagination is part of the job of an author. There's a thread of this throughout my notes, along with some other themes. (Just in case that helps you decide whether or not to hit the follow button.) There are many reasons I might not rate a book at all, especially if I haven't figured out a just approach to rating the work since the rating system is very limited, or if I have nothing to add to a thoroughly-reviewed classic. Sometimes I post notes without rating as another way to provide nuance.

I curate shelves of recommendations for anyone looking for fresh ideas, and I often browse shelves curated by the readers in my feed. I aim to uplift great books and skilled writers, and provide insight into the publishing and film industry.

I'm an approved Bookshop author, and you can find my reading recommendations and challenges here. https://bookshop.org/shop/JSto Happy reading!
