| I loved this book. I don't know how Kenney manages to be deeply sensitive and hilarious at the same time, but it works. This is the kind of writing I love. I've found my new favorite author. ...more | |

Incredible book. Everyone should read it. It has changed my life, made me more conscious and freed up my time for my own pursuits. Thank you, Johann Hari. My book club is reading it so I'm going to read it a second time. I might read it a third time, ...more |

I give it five stars for the the knights, the bandits, the royalty, the scope, the saga, and especially for the two fascinating women on either side of Ivanhoe. But for the modern reader, getting through Ivanhoe is work! Worth it, I think. |

| It’s a classic for good reasons. Buck’s style and the simple story of these not-simple people compel you to read on. The pace is not fast but it is relentless, page by page, from its humble beginning in another time and place, to the profound and ine ...more | |

| I picked this up in a Little Free Library and I’m not giving it back! This is well researched and fascinating. | |
“I had no one else to call. Nobody needed me. I had constructed my life to make certain of it. I'd remained aloof in acting class, been too cool to give my phone number to people I met on the set. I hadn't wanted the complications of being nice.”

“This is the oath of a Knight of King Arthur's Round Table and should be for all of us to take to heart. I will develop my life for the greater good. I will place character above riches, and concern for others above personal wealth, I will never boast, but cherish humility instead, I will speak the truth at all times, and forever keep my word, I will defend those who cannot defend themselves, I will honor and respect women, and refute sexism in all its guises, I will uphold justice by being fair to all, I will be faithful in love and loyal in friendship, I will abhor scandals and gossip-neither partake nor delight in them, I will be generous to the poor and to those who need help, I will forgive when asked, that my own mistakes will be forgiven, I will live my life with courtesy and honor from this day forward.”

“Listen carefully to first criticisms made of your work. Note just what it is about your work that critics don't like - then cultivate it. That's the only part of your work that's individual and worth keeping.”

“Classifiable things reek of death. You must strike out in other spheres . . . quit the ranks. That's the sign of masterpieces and heroes. An original, that's the person to astonish and to rule.”
