Melissa Griffin was born and grew up on the North Shore of Massachusetts. At the age of six, she began writing fiction and she has never stopped. She has a BA in English Literature from Simmons College. She lives in Boston with her partner, the indie singer/songwriter Kerr Griffin, two cats, and a mischief of pet rats. Although she has not discovered any magical abilities of her own, she does spend quite a bit of her time talking to rats. This City of Shadows is her first novel.

“Pain and suffering are always inevitable for a large intelligence and a deep heart. The really great men must, I think, have great sadness on earth.”
