William Thomas Cox (1878–1961) was Minnesota’s first State Forester and Commissioner of Conservation, who in 1910 wrote Fearsome Creatures of the Lumberwoods, With a Few Desert and Mountain Beasts, with illustrations by Coert du Bois, as a fantasy field guide.
