മലയാളചലച്ചിത്രവേദിയിലെ പ്രമുഖനായ ഒരു ഛായാഗ്രാഹകനും സംവിധായകനുമാണ് വേണു. 80-ലേറെ ചിത്രങ്ങൾക്ക് വേണ്ടി ക്യാമറ ചലിപ്പിക്കുകയും മികച്ച ഛായാഗ്രഹണത്തിനുള്ള ദേശീയ ചലച്ചിത്രപുരസ്കാരം മൂന്നു തവണ നേടുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. 1998-ൽ ദയ എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലൂടെ മികച്ച നവാഗത സംവിധായകനുള്ള സംസ്ഥാന അവാർഡും കരസ്ഥമാക്കി.വളരെയധികം ശ്രദ്ധിക്കപ്പെട്ട ചലചിത്രമാണ് ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മുന്നറിയിപ്പ്(2014). 1982-ൽ പൂനെ ഫിലിം ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടിൽ നിന്നും ഛായാഗ്രഹണത്തിൽ ബിരുദം നേടി . അവിടെ വച്ചാണ് പിന്നീട് പ്രശസ്ത ചിത്രസംയോജകയായി തീർന്ന ബീന പോളിനെ പരിചയപ്പെടുന്നത്. 1983-ൽ ഇവർ വിവാഹിതരായി. മാളവിക എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു മകളുണ്ട്.
