Karen was raised in an Irish/Italian family where storytelling was a way of life. Her father had a plethora of characters for bedtime tales that provoked her desire to write children's books. Poetry and short stories followed until finally Karen completed her first adult novel Artista by the Sea and a middle grade novel With Crow; The Tale of Two Sisters.

Karen currently has a play in NYC The Great Forgotten that she wrote with her daughter Kacie Devaney, which has captured the attention of sought after director Stephen Singer of the acclaimed Barrow Group in Manhattan. The Great Forgotten, a play that follows the lives of two sisters, Celia and Elizabeth who served as nurses in WWI honors the unsung heroines--the women. When the sisters return to New York, the Roaring Twenties is in full swing. This compelling narrative captures the plight of women during that era and the changes they fought for. It has all elements that make great theatre--dialogue, dance (the Charleston), love, loss and realities of war. Historically accurate, The Great Forgotten is currently being reviewed as it gained positive reviews at the 2015 International Fringe Festival.

Karen is also a registered nurse with a B.F.A. in Theatre and a M.F.A. in Creative Writing. She teaches, dances, acts and cherishes her yoga-time! Karen has written many articles that have been published in international magazines and her poetry has appeared in several anthologies.

Currently she is working on another novel Between the Vines--a family saga about Sonoma county wine country and the racial barriers that permeated the business. In addition she is completing a short story collection; Crooked Thoughts. Rosie the Dog Who Forgot to grow is her latest children's book.
The Great Forgotten, a play about two sisters who become nurses during WWI. When they return to Manhattan, the sizzling Roaring Twenties is in full swing. The play flip flops between a speak easy and war scenes. Karen co-wrote this with her daughter, Kacie. The Great Forgotten was a favorite in the NYC Fringe Festival 2015 and is currently being sought after by producers and directors on off Broadway. A formal reading for industry folks is to be performed April 4th at Alchemical Theatre 104 West Fourteenth Street 7pm
