Kenneth Harrison

Born
Melbourne, Australia

Kenneth Harrison was a Lance Sergeant in the Australian Army. He fought in the Malayan Campaign for the 2/4th Anti-Tank Regiment, he was captured by the Japanese later on and was held as a prisoner of war at Changi in Singapore. This would be one of two experiences that would highly inspire his later written work, the other being his experiences as one of the first foreigners to see the atomic bomb-stricken cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki after the war.

Harrison later became Victorian President of Jonah, an Australian anti-whaling organization in the 1970s, and played a sizable role in getting whaling banned in Australian waters.
