N.L. Duran is a Venezuelan-American former academic turned fiction writer and ocean vagabond. He grew up in the Venezuelan Andes and immigrated to Florida in the early 90s to pursue university studies in music. At the university, he fell in love with psychology and discovered that conducting scientific research was a lot more enjoyable than butchering Bach’s cello suites. He eventually settled in Michigan, where he spent two decades teaching psychology and conducting research on teen mental health. In the early 2010s, he and his wife made a 10-year plan to leave everything behind, move into a boat, and sail around the world. They released the lines off a dock in Antigua in 2024, and since then, they’ve been sailing west through the Caribbea ...more
