Amy Andersen writes about loss, belonging, and the search for community among those living on the outside of society, the marginalized. The Boy Who Went to Live With the Cats is about a boy whose mother abandons him and his father. He finds and joins a feral cat community in the woods. Through them and other outsiders, with some elements of magical realism, he learns about survival, staying present, nontraditional roles of caretaking and family, and second chances.

Amy Andersen is a past winner of the National Scholastic Short Story Contest. She authored nursing and medical articles and ran a mindbody column. This novella was short listed for the Moon Meridian Prize.
