Reading the Whole Discworld Series

I’ve read the entire Discworld series through, in order, over the last year. I had previously read about 2/3 of them, but out of order, and scattered over a couple decades. The series starts out pretty silly, with Rincewind and Twoflower and puns galore. But over the course of the series, the topics become more serious and the silliness is reined in. A few themes reoccur throughout the books: bigo Read more of this blog post »

Catherine Fisher
“Even across the dark, even across the loss, even across the emptiness, soul will speak to soul”
Catherine Fisher, The Dark City

Neil Gaiman
“It may help to understand human affairs to be clear that most of the great triumphs and tragedies of history are caused, not by people being fundamentally good or fundamentally bad, but by people being fundamentally people.”
Neil Gaiman, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch

Neil Gaiman
“There are some dogs which, when you meet them, remind you that, despite thousands of years of man-made evolution, every dog is still only two meals away from being a wolf. These dogs advance deliberately, purposefully, the wilderness made flesh, their teeth yellow, their breath a-stink, while in the distance their owners witter, "He's an old soppy really, just poke him if he's a nuisance," and in the green of their eyes the red campfires of the Pleistocene gleam and flicker.”
Neil Gaiman, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch

“The hours trampled her on their way through the day.”
Matthew J. Kirby, The Clockwork Three

“In the early morning hours, Hannah read at the table by the dim light of dawn. She leaned in close to the pages, chin resting on her folded arms, eyes racing over the words, like chasing butterflies over the hills, to catch as many as she could before going to work. She wondered at how such tales of magic could be contained by mere paper and ink for her to read again and again.”
Matthew J. Kirby, The Clockwork Three
