Geni Guimarães began publishing poems in literary career paper in town of Barra Bonita, in the State of São Paulo. The first book, Terceiro Filho, was released in 1979. In early 1980, approached the Black Movement and his works began to reletir the concern with the Afro-Brazilian culture.

Wrote short stories for the magazine Cadernos Negros and in 1989 published A Cor da Ternura, novel that received the award Adolfo Aisen.
