“Cítím, jak mě pálí oči. Ne, to ne. Nemůžu před ním začít plakat. Pozdě. Slzy v proudech stékají po mé tváři. V mé blízkosti stojí kluk, před kterým jsem pokaždé chtěla vypadat hrdě. Už mi nejde být silná. Všechno se zdát tak zbytečné a nicotné. Jsem mrtvá. „Faith, můžu tě o něco požádat?“ Moje hlasivky nejsou schopné teď cokoliv říct. Místo odpovědi kývu hlavou na souhlas. Jen nevím, co by teď po mně mohl chtít. „Obejmi mě, protože já to nemůžu udělat.“ Bez rozmýšlení mu padám do náruče. Je to pro mě neuvěřitelná úleva. Necítím se na všechno tak sama. Posle dní kdo mě objímal, byl můj otec, ale vyvolávalo to ve mně úplně jiné pocity. Lee mě sice uklidnil, ale zároveň spálil na popel. V mém nitru je totiž něco, co mi říká: „Buď v jeho blízkosti!”

“Jsi blázen.“ šeptám s úsměvem, který vyjadřuje překvapení z jeho osobnosti. Pořád se snažím ho nenávid ět, ale on je tak neodolatelný. „Ano, to jsem, ale do tebe.”

“He put the book down. “As you wish.” He rose and walked past me. I lowered my sword, expecting him to pass, but suddenly he stepped in dangerously close. “Welcome home. I’m glad you made it. There is coffee in the kitchen for you.”

I just stood there like an idiot.
Curran smirked and whispered in my ear instead. “Psych.”
And just like that, he was out the door and gone.

I raised the cookbook and tapped him on the nose. Bad cat.”

“Did he just rip out the engine?" I asked.
"Yes", Saiman said. "And now he is demolishing the Maserati with it."
Ten seconds later Curran hurled the twisted wreck of black and orange that used to be the Maserati into the wall.
The first melodic notes of an old song came from the computer. I glanced at Saiman.
He shrugged. "It begged for a soundtrack.”
