I wrote this book because it is the story I wished I’d had growing up. As a kid I didn’t read very much. I watched Star Trek and Quantum Leap. My literary conquests consisted of X-men comics, Bible stories and whatever I could find in an encyclopaedia – Greek and Aztec myths, dinosaurs, crazy animals and all wonders of the natural world. I then filled my notebooks with drawings of the fantastical characters and creatures I had synthesised from real life. It wasn’t until a friend lent me a copy of Terry Jones’ Nicobobinus that words became a powerful ally of images and I started creating stories (which often got me into trouble).
