Iva G. Mathews was born in coastal Maine, in a small fishing village where fog, tides, and her father’s ghost sightings shaped her imagination. She now lives in Traverse City, Michigan with her husband and two Shih‑Tzus, where she drinks black tea, takes long walks, and reads as often as she can.

The story was inspired by her childhood — the places, the people, and the coldness of grief and chaos; the strange, out‑of‑body moments that stayed with her. Those memories shaped the atmosphere of the book and gave it its uneasy, unresolved edge.

Her writing blends ghostly atmosphere, mystery, and gothic tension.

“Trust is what is asked for when lovers lie. They take that trust and think you a fool. I ain’t trusting nobody,” she said.”
