Luc Arnaud is a first-time novelist. He pitched and played outfield in high school and pitched a year in college, and for the past fifteen years he has played shortstop in the same men's softball league. NINE was born on the drive home from a playoff loss — a dropped fly ball ended the season, and he found himself thinking: what if one player could play all nine positions at once?

NINE is his debut novel: a story about baseball, family, grief, and the lives we never lived. Samantha and Beau — his wife and their dog — appear in its pages as themselves.
