Catherine Zobal Dent was born in Washington, DC, and moved to the banks of the Tuckahoe River, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, when she was five. A graduate of Duke University, she spent time in California and Massachusetts before she earned her PhD at Binghamton University, starting the Wordscape open mic series, becoming the third editor of the journal Harpur Palate, and co-directing the Writing By Degrees Conference. She was the 2006 recipient of the Charles Johnson Prize for Student Fiction. Her stories and reviews have since appeared in Harvard Review, PANK, North American Review, Drunken Boat, Green Mountains Review, Crab Orchard Review, Louisville Review, Echolocation and elsewhere.
