Virginia Johnson is best knows for her work with William H. Masters researching sexuality in humans. She began working with him in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Washington University in St. Louis. They observed participants engaging in sexual acts and mapped out their responses. With their research they identified four stages of sexual response. The two eventually married but divorced after 22 years.
