Debra Tidball is an author, social worker, blogger and children's book reviewer. Her first picture book, 'When I See Grandma' was shortlisted for the Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year and won the children’s book category of the CALEB award in 2014. Her second, 'The Scared Book,' is a CBCA Notable and heaps of interactive fun with sneaky opportunities for kids to learn about conquering their fears. Debra also has flash fiction and short stories published in anthologies and The School Magazine. An energetic speaker, Debra loves engaging an audience with stories and games to spark imagination.

Wife of one, mother of two and caretaker to a menagerie of furry (and sometimes feathery) friends, she lives in suburban Sydney.

A slowly unwinding, beautiful novel, with a stellar opening chapter about rain, and fascinating insights into the advent of electricity. But at its core, a wise, moving story about the human heart.

I loved this book! An interesting cast of characters at an interesting time of history. I loved how they were all brought together on this ill-fated train, and how I could relax and enjoy the story, knowing the ending (from history).

I bought this book at the Sydney Writers Festival after hearing the author speak on a panel. It was a gripping, over-the-top read, perhaps a bit too gruesome for my delicate tastes :-)
