A native of the Syrian city of Homs, Aboud's recent life has been dominated by the conflict raging in his country. After turning to political activism in the wake of the Assad regime's brutal suppression of a massive sit at Homs' New Clock Square, Aboud was one of the first individuals from within Homs to provide live media interviews to English language outlets on events in the city.

Over the course of the conflict, Aboud found himself displaced several times to different areas of the country, and would witness firsthand the effects of the war on both opposition and loyalist communities. In September 2013, Aboud finally left Syria and relocated to Turkey.
