“A lot of times we have beliefs that we are not aware of, but these beliefs set our boundaries and don’t allow us to think differently. I’ll give you a simple example: I was talking to a client who was desperately looking for a job as he had been laid off. So I said to him “have you thought about looking in ___ (another province)?” his response was “no, that’s just not possible”. So he was restricting himself by creating scenarios in his mind that make him feel that going out of province would not work for him - but how can you know if you don’t try? It could turn out to be the best thing ever. In other words he was being conditional. Conditional thinking keeps us where we are. In order for our lives to change we need to be open to allowing all available options.”
