Dale’s Recent Updates

Charles Bukowski
“God knows I am not too hippy. Perhaps because I am too much around the hip and I fear fads for, like anybody else, I like something that tends to last.”
Charles Bukowski, More Notes of a Dirty Old Man: The Uncollected Columns

Charles Bukowski
“For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.”
Charles Bukowski

George Carlin
“Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money!”
George Carlin

Douglas Adams
“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”
Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Thomas Jefferson
“The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.”
Thomas Jefferson

Kris Thanks for accepting my friend request, Dale. Jenn's comment led me to your reviews, and I agree you deserve much greater readership. I'm looking forward to reading a lot more from you! :)

Jenn(ifer) howdy neighbor!

Madeleine Hi there! Thank you for the friend request and accompanying message. Any fan of Buk's is okay by me but you went above and beyond that with what's looking like a most excellent taste in books. I am amped about the prospect of talking nerdy with ya and nosing around your shelves because my to-read pile enjoys reaching precarious heights. Hope all is rad!

Selena you're unfamilar with powell's? oh lord.

powell's is a bookstore in portland, oregon that takes up an entire city block. it's multi-level and heavenly.

they sell used and new books and host a lot of author events. i love it there. it's a bit of a home away from home for me.

Selena truly loving the rushdie. this has been a very busy last few months so i haven't read as much as i had hoped to, but every moment i have, i dedicate to the satanic verses.

i also may or may not be getting everything else he's ever written this weekend at powell's.
