Darlene P. Campos earned her MFA in creative writing from the University of Texas at El Paso and her BA in English with a medical studies minor from the University of Houston. During her time at UH, she won the Glass Mountain Award for Prose and the Sylvan N. Karchmer Fiction Prize. She is also a two-time Best of the Net finalist in both fiction and nonfiction categories, and the 2025 winner of the Encouragement Grant from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She has been featured in interviews by School Library Journal, Poets & Writers, and Book Riot. She is a co-founder of LatinxPitch, an online event for Latinx authors of children’s literature that helps them match with a literary agent or publisher for their work. Sh ...more

Wow! I absolutely loved this book. I felt like I was right there in the story with Roberto. The story also taught me a lot of unknown Mexican American history. Thanks for a wonderful read!
