Appassionato di fumetti fin dalla più tenera età, si dedica alla lettura di tutti i generi ricompresi nella categoria: dal realistico “italiano” al comics “americano”, trascorre gli anni del liceo a riempiere i diari di compagni ed amici con caricature e disegni dei personaggi maggiormente apprezzati al tempo, come Dragon Ball e Ken Il Guerriero.

Nel 2003 si reca a Roma per studiare Grafica e Design e, nonostante il corso non sia strettamente attinente al medium fumettistico, continua a coltivare questa passione illustrando storie brevi pubblicate su fanzines. Nel 2003 si reca a Roma per studiare Grafica e Design e, nonostante il corso non sia strettamente attinente al medium fumettistico, continua a coltivare questa passione illustrando storie brevi pubblicate su fanzines. Complice l’invasione del “manga” che spopola nelle edicole, la sua espressione artistica iniziale è influenzata dall’impronta giapponese che contagia anche la sua prima opera: una storia breve in 14 pagine intitolata Distant Cries. Quest’ultima, in seguito a vari adattamenti ispirati all’artista nipponico Tsutomu Nihei e ad alcuni cambiamenti stilistici riconducibili alla tipicità del “manga europeo”, viene trasformata in una miniserie carica di atmosfere cupe per il mercato americano.

Dopo l’esperienza romana, rientrato a Messina per frequentare la Facoltà di Scienze della Formazione, si laurea nel 2006. In questo periodo le sue pubblicazioni crescono considerevolmente, soprattutto in virtù della collaborazione con case editrici indipendenti. A partire dal 2007, con la InstantPress Comics di Chicago, dà vita a una serie di progetti tra cui spicca Distant: miniserie in quattro numeri sviluppata da un racconto originariamente inserito in una fanzine.

Il proseguimento del sodalizio con la casa editrice americana gli consente di distanziarsi progressivamente dall’impronta filo giapponese e di proiettarsi verso un tratto più vicino all’aspettativa dell’utenza statunitense.

Dalla collaborazione con il talentuoso editor e scrittore Richard J. Malney, nascono due opere: una parodia lovecraftiana intitolata Are you there, Cthulhu? e Bakerville, fumetto di genere steampumk. Entrambe contribuiscono al definitivo salto qualitativo dell’autore che, grazie ai consigli degli editors della Glass House Graphics, riconsidera le proprie basi tecniche, rimodulandole e sperimentando uno stile nuovo. L’ ispirazione tratta da autori come Terry Dodson e Frank Cho viene applicata nella creazione della parte grafica della miniserie Goddes Inc. e nello speciale di 39 pagine della serie Grimm Fairy Tales presents Wonderland.

Dal 2014, scelto dall’editor Marco Carrara, è copertinista della serie fantasy della neonata collana di libri Vaporteppa. ...more
