Purnima L. Toolsidass is a deeply spiritual person who was inspired by her Guru, Swami Akhandanad Saraswati to work for animal welfare as a service to the Almighty. Purnima believes that compassion for all beings is the best tool we have, for combating and curtailing all the negative trends of modern society. Unwarranted, unrestricted, unopposed cruelty to defenseless beings harms the entire human race at several levels.

Purnima has made it the mission of her life to help make the world more compassionate and empathetic to the enormous suffering – much of which is self-created. She has translated a number of her Guru’s books on Vedic philosophy, and written three books so far.

Purnima L.Toolsidass was brought up in Mumbai. She was greatly influenced by her grandfather, who was a freedom fighter, a Gandhian, and an animal lover. Her innate love for animals and aversion to injustice, hypocrisy and the shallowness of social life prompted an urge to find meaning in life.

Purnima’s search ended when she found her Guru, Swami Akhandanand Saraswati, whose interpretations of the Vedas were the most satisfying, magnanimous and catholic in her experience. Conscious of the many blessings in her life, she devoted herself first to animal welfare and spreading the message of un-compartmentalized compassion, and then to translating her Guru’s books from Hindi to English. This is her endeavor to bring to the public, the eternal philosophy that promotes universal understanding and benevolence.
Purnima feels that the various causes of strife we face globally are due to a lack of compassion and/or understanding.

The proceeds of her books will go to charity – half for animal welfare and half for the charitable Trust that publishes her Guru’s books and CDs.

‘Be happy and spread happiness,’ is what Swami Akhandanand Saraswati told Purnima L.Toolsidass in 1979, when he accepted her as a disciple.
In her Guru, Purnima found her friend, philosopher and guide. For the first time, she found someone who could provide satisfying answers to the many questions that troubled her mind. Having inherited her inclination for free thought from her grandfather – a Gandhian freedom fighter and animal lover – Purnima rebelled against materialistic and orthodox attitudes.
Being an animal lover herself, Purnima felt that animal welfare was the best way to help create a more compassionate and ethically proactive social order. She deplored the fact that people focused on petty differences instead of the fundamental ideals of all religions. She has been translating her Guru’s books into English and working for animal welfare in an effort to reduce the suffering of the world and spread happiness and goodwill.
