Richard Surface was born in Kansas and grew up with four siblings, as a son of a university professor. At first, he studied mathematics and minored in art history, followed by a masters in business administration and recently worked as a CEO of an insurance company before turning his attention to writing. His first thriller “Das Vermächtnis” was published in Germany in 2014. Because of his passion for rather unknown parts of art history, he discovered a study which dealt with works of art that were lost, yet not proven to have been destroyed. The weird and mysterious fate of one of these artworks initiated the idea for “Das Vermächtnis” - a cultural thriller that is set in modern times in countries including Germany, Italy and Austria.
