“Start telling yourself that you are in control of the pain and that the pain is not going to rule your life anymore. This may seem silly at first, but self-talk is the mechanism by which we change the chatter in our brain into a re-programming message for our “software” up there. Come up with a phrase like, “This pain is in my control. Go away!” to affirmatively indicate your belief in control over the pain.  Repeat the phrase to yourself many times a day.  This begins the re-programming of the central nervous system.”
