Professor Berthold Schoene has been Professor of English at Manchester Metropolitan University since 2004. He began his academic career as a Modern Languages student in Germany in the 1980s, specialising in English and Scandinavian Studies. He then specialised in Scottish literature, which took him to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee before he became a lecturer at the Universities of Swansea, South Wales, Liverpool John Moores and Manchester.
