I have recently become aware that many of my previously written reviews are disappearing from goodreads. Has that happened often to others? Irritating and disheartening.

Thanks Nathan. I saw this yesterday and read it, most of it, and though I am glad smart people are talking about Gordon Lish I am not sure they are the right people. David Winters I know for sure is, but the others, not so. But then again, what do I know?

Sometimes attacking the author is exactly what's called for. Common sense is needed when evaluating this, and on a case by case basis... Any set in stone across-the-board rule about this, enforced from on high, is bound to misfire.

All right. Thanks. I guess I get the gist of things. Some of the rules I do agree with as I do not think being demeaning or calling an author or reviewer names is very good. But an asshole is an asshole and I am troubled a bit if we can't even use that word anymore to describe say an author like David Shields, for example. His words on the page matter and they are clearly are written by and as an asshole in more than enough cases and that is a fact that needs to be pointed out. But that is just my opinion. Because he is a darling and a star in some circles is no reason to protect him. But perhaps big daddy amazon.com has something to do with all this?
