1952年生於台北。原籍浙江。六十年代成長於台北好萊塢電影、西洋流行歌圍繞卻庶民生活相當清貧簡談的都市街巷，故舉凡戰後台北人的吃飯習尚與少年的遊藝活動，深得親歷。七十年代中期，開始寫作，作品以散文為主。曾以〈村人遇難記〉獲第二屆「時報文學獎」。1983至1990，七年浪跡美國，1998獲長榮旅行文學獎首獎之〈遙遠的公路〉可為此期間浪途生活的寫照。
