What’s Going on at the Grand Hotel...

No one knows why Peephole Perry came all the way to Mackinac from LA, but when he winds up dead things are looking bad for Evie’s BFF who once worked for the jerk. Now Evie has to gear up and get a grip on the truth if she wants to clear her friend and find a killer.

Its murder and a mystery weekend on Mackinac Island for the rag reporter, his mistress and the wife who wants them both dead

Hi, Evie Bloomfield here all the way from Chicago and now living on Mackinac Island. This a real island where Lake Michigan meets Lake Huron. There are no cars, lots of horses, bikes and a dead body once in a while.

Not only is this a problem for the dead guy...who deserved to bite the big one...but for the businesses on the island. You see, if word gets out that there’s a killer on the loose tourists will stampede for the ferry docks and leave the island, the business will go broke and everyone will head for the unemployment line.

So since we needed a plan to avoid financial catastrophe we sort of passed the murder of one Peephole Perry off as a mystery weekend at the Grand Hotel.

Nate of course doesn’t think this a good idea at all. Nate Sutter’s the local police chief and for some reason thinks law take precedence over the island’s finances...silly man. He’s also smoking hot but that’s another story up for discussion because his stubbornness often gets in the way of the hotness.

Anyway, now he’s trying to tell the tourist this is a real crime scene but than heavens they’re not buying it!

So now it’s a murder mystery at the Grand Hotel while the rest of us in the know try to figure out who killed the Peepster.

Wish us luck. Over and out...Evie Bloomfield.

Gail Still trying to figure it out. Every time I think I know I end up switching to someone else. Still hoping it might be who I thought it was several chapters back.

Gary Sundell This book is near the top of my TBR Nook stack. Can't wait to read it, but then I have that wait for the next one....sigh.

message 3: by Gail (new)

Gail I know I hate having to wait for the next book in a series I love.

Gary Sundell Technically, I think there are vehicles on the island. I seem to recall from my one visit years ago that the island has or had an ambulance and possibly a fire truck. But then I'm a troll. ( A Michigan resident of the lower peninsula.)

message 5: by Gail (new)

Gail I am a troll too. There are emergency vehicles on the Island. When we were there this past August we saw the police car backing up by the police station when we were out walking around. There is also a helicoptor but we have never seen that or the fire truck. We did see a small backhoe in the cemetery when we went on that carriage tour. I poked my husband and said I thought there were no motorized vehicles except for a couple of emergency ones and he laughed.

Gary Sundell Gail you are practically a neighbor. I live in Canton and my law office is in Southfield. Looks like we are the same age as well. My best to you and your husband. I am so overdue for a visit to the Island.

Gail Thanks. We love going in the UP too. We discovered Whitefish Point when we were looking for Paradise, Michigan from Steve Hamilton's Alex McKnight series. That is a really good mystery series. We both enjoyed it. I hate going over the bridge probably because we came across in a storm one time and had to drive really slow back over the bridge. We had gone up to the falls for the day and I guess we should have headed back sooner. We thought we would make it across before it hit but we were not lucky. Hope you get to visit the Island soon.

I don’t want it to be too easy. So glad you’er still guessing. LOL

That bridge is something. They close it if the weather gets too bad and they close it once a year so folks can walk across it. What fun. On my bucket list...that and taking a snowmobile across the Ice Bridge. Brrrrrrr.

Hi, Gary. Yep there is backhoe at the graveyard...saw it under a tarp...and they have an ambulance. They have some construction equipment they keep hidden away till after the Fudgies leave. I just love Michigan. Lucky you.

Next time I go to the island I’m taking time to visit the UP. I hear it’s amazing!

Gary Sundell I love the Mackinac Island setting. I'm surprised that other than Nancy Coco aka Nancy Parra and you there haven't been more mysteries set there. Deb Baker's Gertie Johnson series takes place north of the bridge. Between the late Elmore Leonard and William Kienzle and the still with us Loren Estleman Detroit has plenty of mystery fiction.

Gail Well Duffy you stumped me again. Thought I knew but than I was wrong. Well sort of wrong. I thought it was the one person but than they threw in that twist near the end and confused me. Thanks again for an exciting story. I enjoyed every minute of it!

Gary Sundell Gail, you are whetting my appetite for this book.

Gail Oh good Gary than you will devour the book when you finally get it.

Just need to put some more money on my pre-paid debit card so I can buy it for my Nook. In the meantime, I am busily reading Leslie Langtry's latest Merry Wrath Mystery. It is a close call as to which series is funnier for me Duffy's or Leslie's, but laugh out loud funny is always good.

message 16: by Gail (new)

Gail I have never read any of Leslie Langtry's books. Will have to check them out. I enjoy a good laughable mystery. I have recently read Christine Wenger's Comfort Food Mystery series. They are pretty funny too. I have one more book to go in that series.

Gary Sundell Merry is an ex-CIA field agent who was outed as a spy by a prior administration and how lives in Iowa trying to keep a low profile.
She also co-leads a Girl Scout Troop. There is the occasional use of strong language so I do not think it is a cozy series. But how can one not love a book where one of the Girl Scouts on a trip to Washington, DC asks the First Lady why there isn't a merit badge for knife throwing.

message 18: by Gail (new)

Gail Sounds interesting Gary. How can you go wrong with Girl Scouts?

Mackinac is a great place to set a mystery! With cell phones sometimes working and sometimes not along with WiFi not all that usable the place is really isolated. So much fun.

I know Nancy really well. So much fun to be with and a good storyteller.

Gary Sundell I messaged Deb Baker a while back and suggested she send Gertie Johnson and her friends to Mackinac Island. It seemed like such a fun idea.

I am looking forward to more Mackinac goodness between Nancy's series and going back to the island with your series. I didn't know until I read Geared For The Grave that cell phone service and WiFi was so spotty on the island.

Trust me when I say I have tons of books in my TBR. I would rather have a good book than one hurried out because of some stressed out attorney fan. Grin.
