My Friends on Goodreads

I'm continually amazed as well as appreciative. The number of folks who love to read out there staggers the imagination. Reading is such a solitary pursuit. You do it by yourself. You do it because you enjoy it. Nobody can help you enjoy it.

The writers' efforts to create and craft the stories to entertain readers is just as solitary. Having done it both now, I can see that parallel with clarity.

But foremost, the common bond uniting all readers/friends with me is our shared passion for the written word. That's what Goodreads represents best to me: the passion for books.

Thanks to all of you out there.

Randy I agree completely. Reading has always been a passion and I've had friends look at my books and say(I'm sure you've got also), "Have you read all these books. I haven't read a book since I got out of school."

Those people will never get it.

Here on Goodreads, I've got friends that give me ideas from literally all over the world, from Sweden to Spain to England, never mind here in the States.

Goodreads is also one of my trusted sources for getting reading recommendations. I just hope it doesn't go the way of the buffalo anytime soon.

Darcy Reading connects me with other people in a way nothing else does. I can identify with carefully-crafted characters from a completely different background and society than my own experience. Also, a really good novel can describe common bonds of human experience in a way no other media can accomplish. I agree that although reading is a solitary pursuit, it has always connected me with the vast human experience way before social networking came in vogue.

Well said. I never thought of reading as doing what social media now does. Good point. Thanks. Happy Fourth.

sarg I wonder if the computer generation will be readers? Maybe Kindles and nooks will be their way into the world of reading instead of gaming.

Just today, my wife was telling me writing is now taught with some kind of cut-and-paste deal with an iPad.

Heather According to my dad I was holding books before I could hold my head up.
