I don't know about the new Kindle Fire, which will be backlit, but aLl the other Kindles use e-ink which is similar to reading print but better as you can increase the font size. I love my Kindle!

I don't own a Kindle yet either. I do have the Kindle app for PC and I use it. Not bad, reading mostly early in the morning over coffee. I still read "real" books most of the day.

Thanks for the comments, LJ.
I prefer the ereader BECAUSE of my eyes. Sadly, it is hard for me to read books without being able to adjust the font size, and sometimes I am umable to compensate for glare. I prefer my Kindle, but also read on my iPad which is backlit if the situation calls for it.
Ed, you are making the right call. I've had my kindle for several years now. The only time I use it is on airplanes. Pushing buttons to turn pages is nothing like the comforting feeling of having a book in your hands.

I just read ebooks on my phone. It's not e-ink or anything fancy but it has other benefits: no extra cost, it's small, always with me, I can pull it out when I just have a few minutes to kill, I can read it at night without disturbing others or needing a light on...
For my two cents, nothing says you have to do one or the other. I love to read and I enjoy the feel of the pages and seeing how far I am through a book; at the same time, I like the idea that I can carry 500 books currently on my kindle and pick what I want to read when I want to read it. Both have their pros and cons and for me I do both. I have stacks of books, and like I said, I currently have 500 on my kindle. I always have a book with me, one way or another.
I normally have a fiction/non-fiction book, audiobook, ebook, DailyLit book, and poetry book going :) squeezing reading in wherever I can!
I'm currently doing 95% of my reading on my kindle. I've read more books in the last two years I have a Kindle than before. Since I travel a lot, the fact that I can have hundreds of books with me all the time, the fact that it's so light I can carry it everywhere even when I'm waiting in line to pay for my shopping, it's a huge thing! The e-ink is really easy on the eyes and it´s nothing like reading on a computer.
An e-ink screen is nothing like a laptop or computer screen; it doesn't emit light at all. It's like reading a regular book. Target sells Kindles; go find your nearest Target and see for yourself. I have about 100 books on my Kindle and use it all the time. There are lots of websites where you can get books for free; often older books, but still good ones.
