I bought "Do no harm" at CANFP event in SF 5 days ago and finished it in 2 days. Excellent!!! I am a retired Emergency Physician in the US and a member of my hospital's ethics committee for 20 years. Like Dr Kemble, I am a practicing Catholic. I got to meet Mrs De Maria at the event. Well written and researched and a foreshadowing of things to come. American readers may not know that the British name for acetaminophen or Tylenol is Paracetemol. I have seen overdoses with Tylenol but have never considered it a drug of abuse.

Thanks also for the clarification re paracetemol/acetaminophen. Unfortunately, in Britain it is one of the drugs most commonly used in suicide/parasuicide in spite of attempts to limit the quantities people can buy etc. God bless. Fiorella

Fiorella, it is curious that it (Tylenol) is used so frequently in the UK. There is an antidote and it takes a couple of days to cause death. I left the ER in 2000 and at that time antidepressants were our leading overdose type of medication used. Tylenol is over the counter in the US.
