Does it need to be read after the gilded hours or is it good on its own? Won a copy not knowing it was a sequel and want to read the first one first if needed.

Definitely read The Gilded Hour first - or listen to the excellent audiobook which enhances the story with great Italian and French accents. I've listened to it two times while waiting for the story to continue. Can't wait for September.
