I started writing my latest novel, This Little Light, set in Calabasas, California, in the summer of 2015, before Donald Trump's shocking election victory. I imagined a not-too-distant future (2025) where ultra religious conservatives have stripped women of reproductive rights and where vigilantism in the name of God is the order of the day. It's the story of two teenaged girl's falsely accused of bombing their posh Christian school during a Virginity Ball. The girls, Rory and Fee, flee from their captors and hide from the haters as the bounty on them grows, all the while watching the crowd-sourced hunt for the "Villains in Versace" on social media and cable news. Rory blogs the whole thing in real time, the frightening events, their terror, outrage, close calls, as she ruminates on humanity. Drones search from the skies for the two innocent girls, whose light continues to shine, even in the darkest hours.
