Narrator/Reviewer Q & A!

Calling all questions! Well, not ALL questions, but if you've got one for an audiobook narrator or audiobook reviewer, read on...

Friday, June 28th, is my posting date for Going Public...in Shorts. In addition to talking about the project, my blog host, the fabulous The Oddiophile and I will be having a li'l chat about all things audiobooks, starting with reviewing/being reviewed.

If you've got a question on that topic for either of us, OR on another topic, post it here, message me on FB, tweet me (@xesands) or Oddiophile (@Oddiophile), or comment on the blog post (link below) by 1:00 PM PST this Wednesday. We'll pick a bunch of questions to answer after out initial discussion...if one of those chosen is yours, you'll be entered to win your choice of a download of the #GPShorts collection or and Audible.com audiobook of your choice (region restrictions on both apply).

Check the post for a far more clever write-up...then ask away! Feel free to share this with other inquiring minds as well. Conversation will then continue in the blog comments of Friday's post.

Pat Patterson Hi Xe

I'm about a third of the way through "Another Kind of Dead" and you are one of the best narrators I've ever heard. Seriously. I read and the first 2 books in the series but now for book 3 I got the audio as well. I've hardly touched my ebook, your delivery is just so amazing. Your delivery gives it an emotional punch that's just incredible.

Thanks!

Gracious, thanks so much, Pat! That was so many years agonow...I so miss Evy. Wish the rest of the series had been produced in audio.

Cheri Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your narration of The Transcriptionist. I have already read Euphoria, but now that I see you narrated that as well, I'll listen to your audio book when I re-read it. I am so glad to have 'discovered' you! Sadly, there have been many audio books that I just can't listen to because of the narration.

Oh! So glad to her from you, Cheri, and so appreciate you taking the time to write! Yourcomments mean the world to me - thank you :)

I have the same issue. I am known to be ridiculously picky in terms of my listening preferences. If you're looking for recommendations, I was blown away by Macleod Andrews's deliveryof Where All Light Tends to Go, and thoroughly enjoyed The Distance, narrated by Rachel Atkins.

Happy listening, Cheri!

Sandie Herron Xe,
I'm pretty sure you know how fabulous I feel your narrating is by the reviews I've written of books you read. You make each character sound unique yet don't overdo that characterization, as some narrators do. I often listen to books at bedtime, and many a night I've stayed up way too late listening to "your" books. I love how you portray Oscar in Juliet Blackwell's Lily Ivory series.

In a way, I'm kind of spoiled because as I got into audiobooks when my Graves disease caused such a disruption in my vision, the first book I listened to was early in the Lily Ivory books. I listened to the best first, so everyone else must meet your standards. Keep up the exceptional work! Sandie Herron

PS I am very much looking forward to your chat with Oddiphile on June 28th. On his blog he says: "Friday, June 28th is my day to host the fabulous Going Public… in Shorts! project. I’ll be highlighting the entry by Xe Sands, the project’s mastermind, but before you listen to her recording of “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, you can listen to us as we sit down to chat about anything and everything, starting with a knock-down drag-out… er, recorded conversation… about reviewing and being reviewed."

Xe Sands Hello Sandie!

Thanks so much for your kind words - they mean the world :) I love that series - have such a soft spot for Oscar too. How could I not?

Oh - but that interview is from 2013, I think. Not sure why it popped back up on Twitter, but Oddiophile and I did that years back, when I was running the Going Public...in Shorts! project. You can still listen to it though if you like :) Here's a link:

Sandie Herron I'm so disappointed that the interview is done and over. However, I'm delighted that it is available to listen to. I'll do that. Maybe my questions will be answered'!

Can't wait for the new book From Juliet. I think it's out July 5th, but then maybe you've already read the book! I see an audiobook will be available. Great!

It's weird, I guess, but when I buy the audiobook, I still want the printed book - especially if it's a paperback and hence less expensive. I guess I'm afraid I'll lose the electronic version in some computer mishap. I've often thought of copying my audiobooks onto CDs, but that would take hours if not days and hundreds of discs. Alas, I have just over 200 audiobooks.

I meant all those things I said about your skilled narrations. You help to make choices on which books to buy. Thank you.

Sandie Herron

Amber You are my fave audio narrator, hands down. I've listened to all of your work with Wendy Webb's books. Can't wait to dig into other genres you've narrated!

Thank you so much, Amber! I love working on Wendy Webb's books...always so intriguing and always go in a direction I don't expect.
