Geared is the first book in my Cycle Path mystery series with the second book, Braking for Bodies out in April.

So, here’s a little bit of what’s going on...

Evie Bloomfield is in desperate need of bragging rights for the upcoming Christmas holiday. Her over-achieving brother and sister and even her parents do it right all the time while Evie’s stuck on the bottom run of a design job in Chicago. She seriously needs a raise and a promotion.

So, to get on her boss’ attention Evie does what we all would do...suck up to the boss. She volunteers to leave Chicagoland to help her boss’ dad who owns a bike shop on Mackinac Island and has broken his leg. This sounds like a sold plan until...

“Bunny?” I called out into the night.
Heart rattling around in my chest, I crept though the bushes. Leaves crunched under foot and I tried to remember to breathe. Maybe Bunny fell asleep and didn’t hear me calling, or maybe she was just enjoying the moonlit view over the lake. Bunny’s eyes were wide open all right, but they weren’t looking at the view. They weren’t looking at anything. They were cold, vacant, dead.
My legs went to jelly and I crumpled to the ground. I’d lived all my life in Chicago and never came across a dead person, yet here I was on Mackinac Island in the middle of freaking nowhere sitting next to a corpse named Bunny. Next time I wanted to impress my parents I’d stay home and buy them theater tickets

And to make matter even worse, Dad, who Evie came to help, is now accused of the murder. Just an FYI here...having the boss’ dad accused of murder is no way to get a promotion.

To save her job and help the innocent dad, Evie takes over the failing shop. Can Chicago Evie survive life on an eight-mile chunk of land with no cars, lots of horses, bikes, fudge-eating tourists, the resident sage writing her eulogy and a killer who wants her dead?
Evie’s willing to do just about anything to avoid her parents look of disappointment so what about you? Did you join the choir to please your parents though you hate show tunes? Take chemistry in high school because your dad’s a science guy?

I’ll give away two totes from the answers

Hugs, Duffy Brown

message 1: by Shelia (new)

Shelia My dad wanted a boy so bad when my mom was pregnant with me, but I ended up being a girl. To win the affections of my dad, I was a tomboy who loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, bugs, frogs, etc. My mom on the other hand wanted a little princess to dress up & show off. Thankfully she had another girl when I was 2 1/2 that was more than happy to be the pampered princess. I ran every time she came at me with a dress lol!
