Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) I've read all of the stories, thank you. That's why I wondered if it was a setup, to get him the appointment with the evil doctor, because by the next morning he seems perfectly fine, and back on form.

Mary Beth At first I thought it fake because of the timing: it was useful to get into see the doctor. However, there are instances throughout the book which refer to his shellshock and the aftermath, i.e. his nervous condition which can be triggered by stress.

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) That's what made me wonder, Mary Beth. Maybe he meant to fake it and reality took over.

Mary Beth I think you are right. I am trying to read the books in order, so more light may be shed.

Mary Beth Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) have you read them all?

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) I believe so. I haven't read the "follow-ons" written by other people yet.

Mary Beth Do you have a favorite?

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) My particular favourite is The Nine Tailors. I've read that one several times.

Mary Beth Great. I'll check it out. Did you ever read Gaudy Night?

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) Oh yes. Good, but I didn't like the ending. I reviewed that here.
