What do you mean by take aways?
Hitchhiker's Guide is really just meant to be a blend of absurdism and comedy. My feeling is that, if you like British comedy, you will love it. In my opinion, there are also themes of nihlism and athiesm under there as well as a broad skewering of middle class society.
