Hi Noura, thanks for your explanations. It still doesn't make sense to me though and so I have to say the ending still sucks lol
I'm with you Zak. It also bothers me that Tom spends 400 years looking for his daughter, spends what, a week with her, and decides "eh, that's enough!" So when his teaching term ends, he does not move to Scotland to be near this daughter he's been pining for and instead gets busy knocking up Clair.
It is rather odd, but on the other hand, he talks about how he doesn't really know her, and that "We aren't just who we are born. We are who we become. We are what life does to us." I got the impression that they will get to know each other but slowly over the coming years. It's not as though they're not going to keep in touch, but she has been through a lot, too, and prefers to live somewhere quiet. Tom himself had gone through that living in Iceland, so I get the impression he understands.
