Frank Zubek On the other hand- James Patterson seems to be doing well by teaming up with other writers though his little empire just looks like sheer greed. (Come on, a book out every other month or so? Or are his fans hopelessly addicted to his potato chip writing style? I mean it IS tough to write the way he does, changing chapters every three pages but it is sure tough to put one of his books down)
Anyway- don't take my word for it. If you love Clancy at least check out Locked On. I thought it was okay.... but it just didn't keep me up all night reading the way Red October did. So I think something is fishy and as a reader and fan I'm not happy. That's all I'm saying

Slick1ru2 Stephen King seems to still be doing well and churning out material. He seems to be an exception, possibly with Patterson as Frank notes. Just looked at Stewart Woods reviews on Amazon. I had read some of his earlier books and they were excellent but lots of 3 stars on his newer works.

Larry Moniz I'm reading King's latest book 11/22/63 and just finished his "On Writing, after a rather lengthy period of not reading his books. I'm at least 150 pages into it and finding it predictable with King using his old standby tricks of recalling past events, music, sights, sounds and smells as substitutes for plot line and fast pacing. Of course, if I had lifetime writing earnings remotely in the realm of a Stephen King or Tom Clancy I also might not work too hard to create fresh new works. Even his unexplained time travel technique stepping into the dark and appearing in the past lacks any real ingenuity, at least to me, and I just published a time travel book.

Bjoern Stephen King has always been at least a controversial author and subvjectively the quality of his books was shaky, every now and then one is extraordinary, then again several appear that are more standard fare and almost mechanical and most are somewhere in between those extrems. He has a loyal fanbase and his body of work is awe inspiring in numbers, sales and $ earned, but it's not all the top of the cream.
