I grew up in the 80's. I was given the book in my freshman year of college by a gay guy on my floor. And freshman year in 1986 was full of sex, drugs, and rock'n roll, but as I wrote in my review, everyone I knew who was doing those things had some sort of characterological reason for doing them. Ellis' characters are completely one-dimensional.
