Christa and the Italian professor were acquaintances long before julia comes in. They just reunited because they have the same evil intention.
Christa and the Italian professor were lovers when she was in school in Italy. Their affair ended when she came home to Canada to start her Masters program in Italian Studies with Gabriel. When Gabriel goes to Italy for his lecture, he takes Julia with him. The Italian professor comes onto Julia and she of course is not interested and Gabriel has words with the Italian professor. After this, the Italian Professor is curious and e-mails Christa regarding Gabriel and his fiance named Julia. Christa contacts the Italian Professor only for information about Gabriel and Julia. She pretends an interest in renewing the affair with the Italian Professor, she's not interested in him or another affair, she just wants the info about Gabriel and Julia.
