Ann Davis I felt exactly the same way as you described. The repetition was terrible and I felt as if she was just trying to fill the pages. Considering she uses double spacing and half pages the book just seemed to drag on and on. I also laughed at how old Scarpetta must be now and is still attracting male admirers. I keep hoping that I'll enjoy the next book as much as I did the first lot. I was horrified with the Isle of Dogs and I thought that Patricia Cornwell must have been mentally ill when she wrote that book. I was relieved when she started to write about Scarpetta again, but although some have been better than others, none compare to her first books.

Cathy I am almost finished with Red Mist which I have had more trouble reading. Bone bed kept me interested and her ending, well, alot of her books end with some minor character being the bad guy. The coonections between the bad characters is getting a bit trying but I still love Kay and the aging is not something that I am concerned about. This is fiction so age is not a problem. I think it is great that a younger man showed interest in Kay. Some women look very good and young as they get older. As an "older" person I say "Go, Kay"

Elise It's realism fiction though so age has to matter - especially since she makes a point to make the reader aware of all the other characters' ages. As much as I've love reading the series, part of me wishes Cornwell would just wrap it up already.... it's gone on for long enough I think, has to end sometime.

Jen Davis I have loved the series as well and agree some of the books are much better than others. One of my issues with a series of this length is that so much of each new book is taken up by catching people up on the past. Although helpful for people not starting the series at the beginning, it can be frustrating for series readers to lose so much story space to the repetition.

Colleen YEP!

Katy I did think the part about young men seeing her as a sex object was a bit off. Being an older woman myself, I find this a little unrealistic.

This is the first book I've read in this series and I found that I really did not like the characters all that well and did not intend to read any other books in the series. However, since it looks like a lot of long time fans of the series have issues with this book, maybe I will try some the other books in the series.

Lisa The first 8-10 books were really good. Then Cornwell--and by extension, Kay--started getting really full of herself. Not attractive.
