Sandi Knapp I don't think that Cal was bad. Steinbeck didn't convince me of that. Bad can mean a thousand things. Cal was jealous, yes, but he also called things the way they were. The only bad thuing he did was tell his brother about their mother. I don
t think he intended to slay him. He just wanted to hurt him. Cain, on the other hand wanted to kill his brother out of jealousy and rage. Cal thought he was bad because of his mother.

Aubrey Jean I don't think Cal was bad. But he did know that by showing Aron who his true mother was would destroy him...and it did. But I know that Caleb regretted his actions. There were just hints about Caleb being the son of Charles. When Adam first sees him as a neborn, he thinks he sees Charles. When Caleb visits Cathy...Cathy becomes confused and starts calling Caleb Charles. Caleb also had Charles brown eyes. It's practicaly genetically impossible for two blue eyed parents to have a child with dark brown eyes. Char'es had brown eyes, Adam had blue eyes, and Cathy had blue eyes. So, there's only one person that Caleb couldn've gotten those dark brown eyes from. Aron had blue eyes, so his father could have been either Charles or Adam. However, Aron looked like his mother...and seemed to not favor either Charles or Adam very much.

Sofia Hernandez Consider what happened right before Caleb told Aron:
He gave their father an expensive gift he worked hard to get and Adam not only turns it down but says that Aron being in college was a better gift than any money Caleb gave him. It's worth noting Aron wouldn't be in college, especially not that early, had it not been for Caleb.
Frankly, if I were Caleb, I would have done the same.
