Ela definitely recommend not reading 5 star or 1 star reviews at all.
keep it between two and four. some people really hype up their favorites. (Anything with a sports romance or a grumpy sunshine is probably gonna get a 5 star from me for ex. 😅) but if you've already read it try another review probably even a 5 star to even it out!😊

Karsyn I agrée with the comment above! People like to be haters, but people also can maybe over exaggerate in their reviews (I’m guilty!). Sticking to the ones that are genuine would be your best bet. And honestly, even then, if you feel drawn to a book and want to give it a shot… then give it a shot! I always enjoy forming my own opinions when I see an influx of bad/good reviews on a book I am reading. Being able to find my own enjoyment in it (or dislike in it) is half the fun of reading! 🥰 happy reading!

évieane I usually tend to fully ignore reviews when I am interested in reading something because people have different tastes and they enjoy things in different ways. So I usually go for whatever I want to read and decide for myself after that. I also don't really read reviews before I read something, mainly because I feel like it would spoil the fun for me, and I enjoy having my own opinions in the end.

❃A.J❃ Just focus on the good reviews. And most importantly, see if you are genuinely interested in the plot. Literature is subjective, just because one person hated it, doesn't mean that you'll hate it too.

KyoAi ♡ Read the blurb and a free extract of the book. (Like a sample on Kindle.) If you think you'll like the book based on what you've read, then go for it!

Eric Mrozek It really depends on how the review is written, although I am saying that as an author myself.

Most of the time, people are polite when they write about why they liked or didn't like something, and that's perfectly valid because it's a largely subjective interpretation.

Personal attacks are not. Thankfully, those are extremely rare.
