Thanks for putting this thread up. I admit I posted something elsewhere indicating I was a new member... I know from other groups that it can be nice to just introduce oneself.
I am new to the whole site and just joined the group. I come here occasionally to see what people say about a book or something that might create a spark of interest. I don't have any friends : ( so if you'd like add me.Thanks in advance
Hello All,I've been here for a few weeks, I think. I came aboard when the Silver Sparrow discussion started.
So far, I have been having a great time reading over old discussions, and participating in the new discussions. I love how taking part in the book discussion has deepened my understanding of the books. Reading is so much more rewarding when it can be shared with other thoughtful people.
Hello everyone,I also just joined Goodreads as well as the group. I am looking forward to reading The Marrow of Tradition (just picked up a copy at the library) and the discussion.
hi, i'm new to the group. i am really liking reading the old discussions, too, and looking forward to participating in new ones. i recently read unburnable , and wish i had been a part of that discussion.
Welcome, Angela and Emile! I hope that you both will find many discussions in which you will want to participate. And if you want to add new comments to older discussions, they are always welcome.
Hi Marjorie, and welcome. Besides the obvious authors, Edwidge Danticat and Dany Laferrière, is Maryse Condé also Haitian?

I just finished reading Kindred by Octavia Butler and thought it was incredibly moving and original. I love the way she wove time travel and historical fiction together in such a believable way. Anyway, found my way here and am looking forward to reading more by Butler and other writers recommended by this group.
Hello Everyone,
My name is Shardae, thanks for having me.It might sound like a crazy request but can anyone recommend a book that made you cry? Someone asked me a few days ago if I ever read anything that stirred so many emotions inside of me that I cried and I couldn't think of any. I'm not picky I read any and everything as long as it's good. Thanks!

Welcome to the group, Shardae, and thanks for joining. What an interesting request, but I'll leave it to the other members to come through for you.
Hello Shardae,There's a lovely list on here that I just looked through to see if I could make a list for you...and, while I haven't read them all there are some real tear-jerkers! :D

Well dag, WE, are glad to have you Hattie..talk about Invisible Man!..(just joshing) Welcome and be sure to vote on this months poll!
I don't know if I ever introduced myself to this group. I don't know that I will ever participate in the discussions, but I read them. I tend to be behind group readings in every group I am in :)I read mostly literary fiction, history, and food books. I am particularly interested in the American experiences of regular people (fiction and nonfiction).
I am always looking for a good book to add to my tbr shelf, which is not getting any shorter. But I really do read things off it.
Glad to be a member. My name is John H Sibley you can read info" about me" at my Goodreads home page. Somewhat new-ish member to the group. I had been lurking for awhile and was finally able to actively start participating in this month's book's discussion i.e. Wild Seed.
Hello everyone!I just recently joined this group. My name is Deborah White. My online name is msladydeborah which I use frequently.
I look forward to connecting with other readers, sharing information and having a good time.
HI Msladydeborah! Thanks for joining...I think all of those things you're looking for you'll find right here!
Hello my name is K.Nicole and I am new to the group. I love African Diaspora Lit, loved it so much that I graduated from the Univ. of MD with a B.A. in English w/ a concentration in African Diaspora Literature, LOL! I have a lot of favorite authors, but Alice Walker and Toni Morrison always top my list (except Morrison's Paradise, which I couldn't get into).
Oh and I also write. :)
Hi everyone! I found this group through a link to the "Wild Seed" thread. I read it years ago, and I'm sorry to have missed that discussion. I look forward to the upcoming group reads.
Hello, everyone! What a great group. I’ll start “We the Animals” tonight. Missed “Wild Seed”, but I did read “Kindred”. I like all kinds of reads, but I’m into Edward P. Jones at the moment.
We discussed Kindred back in May, 2009, Adrienna. Here's the link to our discussion, for anyone who may be interested. All of the discussions remain open, so anyone can add comments or raise questions at any time.http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
Oooooh, I've read KINDRED. Luved it. Only book I've read by Ms. Octavia Butler. Was sorry to hear about her death.
Good morning Hattie. And welcome. I'm fairly new myself. Hope to share some great discussions with you in future days.
Good morning, Alfred. Glad to meet you. I hope we do get a chance to share a talk in future discussions. Welcome!
Hi everyone! I posted on the 1Q84 thread first, not realizing this thread existed. So... I'm Tiffany. I graduated from SUNY Stony Brook with a BA in English. I love AA literature and not surprisingly, my favorite author is Toni Morrison.I participated in the 2010 NaNoWriMo challenge and completed a first draft of my very first novel. (The rewrite is proving itself to be much more drawn out.) Knowing that reading makes for better writers, I'm challenging myself to read one hour per day & 48 books this year. I'm so glad this book group exists - I've been looking for you all for a very long time! :)
