Nikki Lee Tracy, thank you so much! I’ll be thinking about this book for a long time.

theliterateleprechaun You sold me! Thanks for such a heartfelt and thorough review. 💜

message 12: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lee TLL, I hope you love it 😍. It does have a slow start, but it is developing a relationship between the two boys. You will feel the pain these characters feel. You will feel all the emotions. I will be thinking about this story for a long time.

message 13: by CarolG (new)

CarolG Excellent review Nikki! I love that you could relate to some events in the book. I can't wait for the library to get back online so I can place a hold.

message 14: by Raylene (new)

Raylene Prout LOVE THIS review! I grew up in Montana in the 70's, one of three black kids in my school, so I can very much relate to what you said, though from the other side. I was the one the boys either didn't want to be seen kissing under the bleachers, or the "exotic" one they wanted to try out to see if I was easier than the white girls. #boysaredumb

I cannot wait to read this (put it on hold with Libby already)! Especially after reading Saving Emma - LOVE me some Boady and Dee.

Squeeeeee! You did it again, getting me all pumped up to read another great book. 🤗📚

Thanks, Nikki!

I

message 15: by Holly (new)

Holly B ( working on slowly catching up!) I don't know that I really want to ball my eyes out , but sounds amazing Nikki!

message 16: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lee Carol, I can guarantee that you will love it! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts! 💜

message 17: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lee Raylene, I swear we are connected. Especially with books. I love that you love Eskens too. It breaks my heart that you experienced that growing up. You are around my age, so I can only imagine….. and in a country town. I will tell you I continued to date many other races. I had an Indian (from India) boyfriend for a year when I was 20, people didn’t like that. I didn’t care… however, he turned into an a** 🤣🤣🤣
I’m so excited to see what you think about this one. It’s the best story I’ve ever read! Don’t forget to message me and let me know 💙🫶

message 18: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lee Holly, I had NO IDEA that was coming. I’ve cried in about 3 or 4 books in my whole life. Yet, these were emotional hardships and the other reveal pertaining to a character was extremely moving for me.

message 19: by Karly (new)

Karly Fantastic review Nikki what a roller coaster. So glad you loved this one 🩷🩷

message 20: by MarilynW (new)

MarilynW I was interesting reading about Boady's past, since he's in so many of Esken's books. I can see why this book touched you so much, Nikki!

message 21: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lee Thank you, Karly 💙

message 22: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan K (Max Outlier) Nice..glad it touched you.. this was the first Eskens book I read and was so glad I happened upon it

message 23: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lee Marilyn, I’m also a recovering alcoholic, so that was the other thing that was very personal to me. Hell, once I got to the you know what part….. Niagara Falls 😭😭😭

message 24: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lee Jonathan, I was so deeply moved that I wanted to contact Eskens myself to share my gratitude for his incredible work 🫶

message 25: by Rowan (new)

Rowan MacDonald This is an incredible review, Nikki! Wow. What a book. Sounds like a powerful read. I love your personal touch to this. And here's to us sober people 😊

message 26: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lee Hell yeah, Rowan!!! Amen to that! Thank you so very much. If you knew my story and where I’m at now, 💯

Margaret M - (having a challenging time and on GR as much as I can) Superb review Nikki 💖

Kat Such high praise! I'm so glad this resonated with you. That's the best feeling as a reader! Excellent review, Nikki. 🩷

message 30: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lee Kat, oh yes! I was seriously emotional. Not in a bad way either, in a cleansing way…. If that makes sense. I slept like a baby that night. Thank you honey 🩵

message 31: by Allen (new)

Allen Eskens Thank you for that wonderful review. Nothing warms the heart of a writer more than to know that his or her work evokes emotion.

message 32: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lee Allen, all your work does this for me. I’m really glad that 20+ years working on this project turned into something so meaningful! Please keep writing and I’ll keep reading! 😊

message 33: by Christina (new)

Christina What a beautiful and heartfelt review, Nikki! Thanks for sharing your personal experience! I need to read this!

message 34: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lee Christina, thank you so much! There is some alcoholism mentioned in the story that I didn’t write in the review. I’ve been in recovery for 20 years and when I came to a crucial part towards the end, Niagara Falls came flooding down! 😭😭 This was phenomenal! Definitely a must read! 💜

Jennifer ~ TarHeelReader Fab review, Nikki! I agree- he does this so well!

message 36: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lee Jennifer, it’s my forever favorite! Thank you 😊

message 37: by Kaycee (new)

Kaycee I so heartily agree with all you said. I just finished it and still have tears streaming down my cheeks.

message 38: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Lee Kaycee, awwww! That was a really moving story wasn’t it? I was so touched. See, I’m a recovering alcoholic and the story of Hoke hit me hard. This is now my favorite book to date. I’m so glad you loved it. Eskens will love to hear that.
