Need to Update Info on a New Book > Likes and Comments

Dear Librarian,
I tried recently to add a cover to my book The Soul Collector: A Paranormal Urban Fantasy by M.J. Moores. However, when I added the cover and tried to save the change, I was presented with the following note:
- Description may only include links to other pages on Goodreads

This confuses me because I make absolutely no reference to any links in my description and I am a KU/Author Select subscriber. The interior contains a link to my newsletter, as per the requirements, but my description makes zero reference to any links. The author bio listed has 3 links which can be removed, but not by me, and not from the book listing page.

Additionally, this book is not listed in my personal profile as a Goodreads Author.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The warning you're seeing ("Description may only include links to other pages on Goodreads") is really confusing. I can explain why it's happening, and fortunately it's an easy fix.

The short answer is, the system is trying to prevent URLs in book descriptions, but its detection is overzealous.

The site scans the book description text (meaning what shows up on the book page, NOT any text inside the book) and looks for any case where a period is adjacent to a letter or number. If it finds any matches, it assumes you are trying to put in a URL (like xyz.com).

In your case, the book description has multiple instances of this happening:
#1 Public Enemy No.1
#2 Public Enemy No.2
#3 Favour’s due.Back on the...
#4 popularity contest.Can she survive...

Note that #3 and #4 are happening because descriptions get imported incorrectly from Amazon. The bot strips out line breaks but does not replace them with a space. (I've contacted support asking for a fix, hopefully it's on their to-do list.)

Ok so at long last, the easy fix: edit your book description and make sure there is at least 1 space (or line break) between each period and other text. Once the system detects the description is valid, you can make other edits like normal.
