Gary Cullen Pretty rough rating considering your primary criticism was using first person narrative. I tried hard to weave a human interest story along with historical accuracy. I presented the story in first person because I wanted it to read like a journal.

tradcat It wasn’t a problem with using the first person, my problem is with writing historical fiction in the present tense. I’m not saying it’s a bad book, it was just jolting to be in that tense. If it makes you feel any better, I didn’t like the hunger games either for the same reason. I also found some depth lacking in Jean Luc’s character. Maybe it’s because I’m reading it as a woman and I don’t identify with Jean Luc at all (I was personally more attached to Adrien if I had to pick). It’s a difficult line, I imagine, and not one that I have even attempted to straddle as an author, but it was still at times difficult to read or invest in. That is all
